A New Voting System?

I am so tired of watching our country spiral out of control because the electoral process turns into a race for prom queen. The winner is easy to spot because they are the belle of the ball... the most popular, the best speaker, the one with the commercial smile and the Hollywood charm.

I think we should change the way we vote in this country. I think ballots should not have names on them at all, but simply list issues. The issues on the ballot should be debated upon and agreed upon by the two parties prior to election day, but on the day itself all voters see is the issues, and two check boxes with a detailed description of how that issue is going to be dealt with.

After we vote on each issue, the results are tallied and the person who won the most issues is the new leader. But, that leader must, no doubt, take into consideration how the country as a whole feels about all the issues, including the ones he lost on.

This takes the moron factor out of voting. It forces people to think about what they want from their leader, and to look beyond popularity, beyond the facade, and beyond superficial surfaces.

Love it. But I think I'm becoming too cynical b/c one of my first thoughts was, "It would never work b/c there would probably be a huge outcry about how it's not fair to people who can't read."
